Winnemucca, NV- Thanks to Barrick’s Turquoise Ridge social investment which funded the new playground at the Boys & Girls Club of Winnemucca (BGCWIN), Club members now have an interactive, multi-use playground to enjoy. To celebrate the new play area, club members, staff and Barrick employees are invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, November 20 at 3:45 p.m. at the B&GCWIN on 1973 Whitworth Way.
Made possible by Barrick Turquoise Ridge, the structure features slides, a climbing wall, tunnels, shade structures and many more child-friendly amenities. Surrounded by industry standard and safety compliant turf, the outdoor play space is fully enclosed with fencing ensuring that Club members are safe while playing outside. Outdoor play is an important part of growing up and has developmental benefits that promote kids cognitive, social and emotional benefits. Club Development Director, Koralee Bernardo shared that “even with the cooler weather, the playground is a popular space where Club members like to spend their free time.”
It is through social investments like the B&GCWIN playground, Barrick continues its dedication toward community health and wellness initiatives. “Barrick was able to provide an additional space within the community where children can safely grow, play and thrive,” explained Henri Gonin, General Manager of Turquoise Ridge. “We are excited to be able to support children living a balanced and active life where they can thrive in the outside environment.”
The BGCWIN playground is one part of Barrick’s more expansive social investment which also includes STEM programing and educational development opportunities to Club members.
