Community Calendar for July 30th

There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the Martin Fire.  The Bureau of Land Management is offering $2000.  Separate from the BLM, Snyder Plumbing of Winnemucca is offering $1000, $7000 from Humboldt County, and the Stewart Family of 96 Ranch are offering $10,000.  If you have any information please call (775) 623-6429, or the BLM at (775) 857-3511.  You can also visit ncsonv.com and provide information online; you can remain anonymous if you wish.

The Nevada Outdoor School is hosting Nature at Noon for Pre-K to 2nd graders every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1pm at Vesco Park.  Stop in for free fun filled activities and crafts.

Superior Livestock begins August 1st at the Convention Center.

The Western Arts and Crafts Show is August 1st through 3rd at the East Hall, main floor of the Convention Center.  This year will feature 20 vendors featuring multiple locals such as Delia Nuffer, Kathi Turner, and Old Enchanted Home Decor.  The show will feature silver work, leather work, rustic decor, clothing, paintings, metal art and much more.  The event will open be in the East Hall and will be open 9a-6p Wednesday, 9a-7p Thursday, and 9a-2p Friday.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring “National Night Out” on August 7th.  This nation-wide event focuses on crime and drug prevention along with community safety.  This year the event will be from 6 to 8pm at Vesco Park on Tuesday August 7th.  Many first responder organizations and support services, such as Winnemucca Domestic Violence Services, will be attending.  Cookies and ice cream will be served.

The Boys & Girls Club of Winnemucca is hosting “Giving on the Green” cocktail party at the club from 7 to 9 pm on August 7th.  Enjoy ‘lite bites’ and cocktails while helping the club launch their mobile bidding app for the fourth annual “Giving on the Green: Golf, Dinner, and Dance”.

Lowry Soccer try-outs begin August 11th.  Girls will begin at 7am and boys at 8am on the Lowry Soccer Fields.  Volleyball try-outs also begin on the 11th in the new gym; 8-10am for freshmen and sophomores, 10:30a-12:30p for juniors and seniors, 5-7pm for all grades.

The Giving on the Green Golf & Dinner Dance benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Winnemucca will be held Saturday, August 11 at the local golf course with evening festivities at the Club.

August 11th and 12th is the Winnemucca Horseshoe Tournament at the Events Complex, with the National Horseshoe Tournament to follow on the 18th and 19th.  The August 11th tournaments begins at 10am and everyone is invited to attend.  Registration is at the door and begins at 9am.  There will be a cash prize.  For more information contact Elaine Perry at (775) 530-9403.  August 12th, beginners and pros are welcome to join in the NHPA sanctioned event, with registration at 9am with the event to follow at 10am.  If you join in the fun on the 12th and register with the NHPA then return for the 18th and 19th as the National Horseshoe Tour will come to Winnemucca with over $6,500 on the line.  For more information visit the horse shoe tour or email Ron.

August 11th the Nevada Outdoor School is celebrating their 15th year and the 10th year for the Dutch Oven Cook Off.  The event will take place in Vesco Park.  Cooks will begin at 8am and the public is invited at noon.  It isn’t too late to register for the event.  Visit nevadaoutdoorschool.org and register today.  There are three categories from single dish to an International Dutch Oven Society sanctioned three dish competition that the winner of may participate in Sandy, UT.  The NOS asks that interested individuals or groups register by August 8th.
