Community Calendar for the Week of June 11th

The Humboldt County School District would like to remind parents of Lowry High School athletes who plan to participate in the 2018 2019 school year that ALL athletes must register on Register My Athlete to be eligible to participate in Lowry sports. The 2018-2019 window is now open to allow parents and or athletes to begin registering.  Please be sure to register your athlete for the grade level they will be starting in August. Again, that website is register my athlete dot com.

Primary elections will be held June 12th at the convention center.  Buckaroo Country encourages everyone to get out and exercise your right to vote.

The Nevada Outdoor School’s Nature at noon begins June 12th at the Vesco Park.  This free activity is open to pre K to 2nd graders and meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 12 to 1 and is filled with nature oriented activities, crafts, and fun.  For more information on this and other N O S activities check out Nevada outdoor school dot org or call 623 5656.

Join Young Life Winnemucca at Winger’s Road House June 13th at 6pm for a wingathon!  Funds raised will help send young life members to camp this summer.  For more information contact Lori Timko at (775) 455-5145 or check out young life Winnemucca on Facebook.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness is presenting NAMI Basics teacher Training on June 15th and 16th at the PACE Coalition 1645 Sewell Drive Suite 41 in Elko.  Classes begin at 8:30am.  For information and to register call Linda at 775 440 1626.  All materials will be provided, including lunch.

Koyote Kruisers presents the 23rd Show ‘n’ Shine on Saturday, June 16th, at Vesco Park.  The first 100 entries will get a free t-shirt.  Registration begins at 8:00am with the awards at 3:00pm.  There is a grand prize of $200.  There will also be a registration/welcoming party Friday, June 15th, from 5:00 to 8:00pm at The Pig BBQ and Pub.

Father’s Day is June 17th.

The Civil Air Patrol is looing for youths and young adults between the ages of 12 and 20 who are interesting in serving their community while learning valuable job and life skills.  The C A P is looking for individuals interesting in public affairs and communication.  For more information check out their Facebook page at Humboldt County Composite Squadron – Civil Air Patrol.  Their next meeting is on June 19th at 6pm for youths and 7 for young adults, at 8000 Airport Rd, which is the squadron building.

On June 22nd through the 24th the Winnemucca Stock Horse Classic and Derby will be at the event Center; swing by and cheer on our local cowboys as they compete in each event.

The chamber of commerce is hosting a wine walk on June 30th.  The theme for this wine walk is Red, White and Wine.  Those who dress according to the theme can enter a drawing to receive a chamber check.  The event will begin 4pm in front the chamber office.  Cost is $20 per person and the first 120 people will receive a commemorative glass.

The caregivers and grief support groups meet every third Thursday of the month at the Sonoma room at Humboldt general hospital.  Caregiver support meets at 5pm with Grief support beginning at 6.  Call 775 625 4263 for more information.
