All Around Nevada is a website run by University of Nevada Reno Professor Howard Goldbaum. The site highlights fascinating out of the way places in Nevada. Professor Goldbaum has given us permission to reprint content from the site. Today’s post is about Hickison Summit Petroglyphs
Between Austin and Eureka, this mountaintop rest stop offers more than the usual assortment of shaded picnic tables and restrooms. Here the traveler on the Loneliest Highway in America can enjoy a stroll on an interpretive trail of ancient petroglyphs. The rock art is located in a pinyon forest where the Native American artists might have gathered pine nuts as they created their carvings.
