Humboldt County’s New Year’s Baby Arrives at Humboldt General Hospital

Adalynn Camilla Mendoza is the first baby of 2018. The beautiful little girl made her entrance at 6:54 p.m. Tuesday, January 2—and the staff at Humboldt General Hospital was waiting. “Everyone [at the hospital] was so excited,” said dad Angel Mendoza. “They said we  would be the first baby of the New Year.”

Mom Jannet was also excited to meet her new daughter, especially since Adalynn’s sister and brothers were all born at 36 weeks. “It was horrible,” laughed Jannet at going the full 40 weeks. “I couldn’t wait.” Adalynn weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 20 inches long. She joins 7-year-old Sarahi, 5-year-old Elias, and 3-year-old Saul at home.

Maternal grandparents are Martha and Salvador Garcia of Winnemucca; paternal grandparents are Emma Cardenas of Florida and Uriel Mendoza of Winnemucca.

Little Adalynn was well attended by physicians. She was delivered by Dr. James Denisar-Green, a physician resident with the University of Las Vegas School of Medicine. Dr. Green was attended by Dr. Bradford Granath, the site director for the Family Medicine Rural Residency Program at Humboldt General Hospital, and Jannet’s physician for the past nine months has been Dr. Leonard Perkinson.

And according to Jannet, once she hit the hospital at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, things progressed quickly. “It went fast!” she said. Plus, this was Jannet’s first delivery in Humboldt General Hospital’s new Mother and Baby Unit “and it was really nice,” she said.

Jannet said she was hoping for a girl; sister Sarahi confirmed she was too.  “She’s had enough with boys,” quipped her dad. Jannet and Angel both said they hope their new daughter will get a good education and will enjoy growing up with her sister and brothers. “She’s going to have lots to do,” predicted Angel. But for now, both parents are enjoying their little girl and her special moment as Humboldt County’s first baby.

Adalynn will enjoy a bounty of gifts from area organizations and businesses that did their part to celebrate the first birth. The OB nurses at Humboldt General Hospital, led by Kathryn Ourada, RN, shared gifts for the new baby along with Brittany Nielsen/Allure Salon, Makayla Lopez/Allure Salon, Taylor Jimenez/Allure Salon, Allure Salon, Flex Fitness, Serenity Spa, Cheryl Comeau, Nature’s Corner, Global Coffee, Rice Jewelers, Winnemucca Inn, Winners Inn, Tips Western, Simply Trendy, Port of Subs, Monica Sartor/Lucky Shot Photography, Real Deals, Second Street Seasonals, Front Porch, First Baptist Church, Boot Barn, Ridley’s Family Market, Dr. Bradford Granath, Khoury’s Market, Bosch Motors, MIX 102.7 and ROCK 94.3, Big R, Shoreline, Good Morning Furniture, Java Town, Sid’s Restaurant, Frames and Things, and Walmart.
