Humboldt County Community is Invited to Annual Harvest Potluck Dinner

People of all faiths are invited to break bread—or eat turkey, as the case may be—in an attitude of thanksgiving.

The 15th annual “Harvest Potluck Dinner” will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 111 McArthur Avenue in Winnemucca.

The interfaith dinner is sponsored by the Winnemucca Ministerial Association and people of all faiths are invited to attend. Winnemucca Ministerial Association President Stan Rorex said the dinner began 15 years ago as a way to express thanksgiving for the many blessings of living in Humboldt County. “While each faith may have a different way of expressing their beliefs, we all share a mutual gratitude for our blessings and a common desire to help those in need,” he said. Rorex continued, “This dinner is our annual way of ‘joining hands’ over some great food and friendships.”

The evening will include a turkey dinner with all the fixings. Participants are asked to bring a potluck dish to share as well as a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Winnemucca Food Bank. Mayor Di An Putnam will share remarks, and entertainment will be provided by the Lowry High School Swing Choir. “We hope everyone will take advantage of this chance to come and eat and share their friendship and goodwill with us,” said Rorex. “As a Ministerial Association, we feel this is an excellent way for us to kick off our community’s holiday season.”
