Winnemucca’s Jace Billingsley, who was the Detroit Lions’ final cut coming out of training camp, has been elevated to the team’s active roster. Billingsley will give Detroit depth at the receiver position as the team’s leading pass-catcher Golden Tate deals with a shoulder injury. Tate is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Steelers. To make room on the roster for Billingsley, the Lions cut backup punter Jeff Locke.
The 5-foot-9, 189-pound Billingsley has spent the first seven weeks on Detroit’s practice squad. As a rookie last season, Billingsley was elevated to the Lions’ active roster for its regular-season finale and the playoff game in Seattle but was inactive for both games. He could make his NFL debut this week.
