The Nevada Department of Taxation decided on Thursday to start issuing licenses to other businesses who meet the qualifications to become recreational marijuana distributors. Alcohol wholesalers have been the only group allowed to be licensed until Thursday’s decision.
The tax department will start reviewing approximately 80 applications they received in May from these other businesses. The department will then start issuing marijuana distributor licenses to the ones that meet the minimum qualifications.
During Thursday’s three-hour public meeting held in Henderson, several people spoke in favor for an “expanded pool” of recreational marijuana distributors. Recreational marijuana became legal in Nevada on July 1.
