On a beautiful Friday night for football the Lowry Buckaroos turned it into a long evening losing 34-14 to 2A Battle Mountain Longhorns. The Buckaroos committed 12 penalties and gave up to many big plays on 3rd and 4th down which included 2 fake punts. Senior quarterback for the Longhorns Gabe Naveran passed for 218 yards and 2 TD’s and ran for another one on 64 total yards.
There were a number of bright spots for the Buckaroos as senior running back Victor Rosas had a nice night running the football including a beautiful run up the middle for a touchdown. The entire defensive line played strong all night long and quarterback Ren Mattson throw a long touchdown pass. The score was tied up at 7 apiece after one quarter of play then late in the second quarter and trailing 13-7 the Buckaroos had a chance to take the lead deep in Longhorn territory but was not able to push it across the goal line.
The Longhorns came out after halftime and dominated the Buckaroos taking a 27-7 lead into the third quarter and then both teams traded touchdowns in the 4th quarter for the final score of 34-14.
This wake up call is just what the team needed and after watching tape of the game I’m sure the mistakes will be corrected and you will see a completely different Lowry team that will be much improved and will fight hard against Spring Creek this Friday night September 1st at Lowry High School with kick off at 7pm.
The Junior Varsity dominated Battle Mountain in a 44-14 victory.
